Riley Benado, an 18-year-old graduate of Paso Robles High School, went to a doctor with a swollen stomach, only to find out she had enlarged lymph nodes and extra fluid in her stomach. These turned out to be potential symptoms of ovarian cancer. The brave and inspirational teenager has written a very emotional post about her decision to go for a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer on her blog Rally For Riley. Riley had a 13 cm mass on one ovary that affected both sides. Her uterus, ovaries, eggs and other infected organs were removed in the process.
Riley, the former varsity cheer captain and current Cuesta student went in for a complete hysterectomy on September 26.
Her doctor gave her a pregnancy test, doubting her swelled belly to be a baby- even though Riley is a virgin!
